Frequently asked questions

What is a Federal Tax ID Number (EIN)?+

A nine-digit Employer Identification Number (EIN) issued by the IRS. Also called a Federal Tax ID. Used for banking, taxes, and federal filings.

Is this the same as an SSN?+

No. An SSN identifies an individual; an EIN identifies a business entity. A Sole Proprietor can use an SSN or EIN for banking.

When will I receive my EIN?+

Standard delivery 1–2 business days. Same-business-day expedited if ordered before 2 pm Mon–Fri ET.

How does the IRS deliver the EIN?+

You file the prepared Form SS-4 yourself — by fax, phone, or the IRS online portal. We include all three sets of instructions.

Do I need an EIN if I am a Sole Proprietor with no employees?+

Recommended if you open a business bank account, file excise taxes, or want to keep business and personal tax filings separate.

Can I apply for an EIN directly with the IRS?+

Yes — for free. Our service exists to fill the form correctly, avoid the rejections that cause delays, and back up the package for your records.
